Business Sunday: 06 July 2003. GP Speaks

On Sunday morning Business Sunday carried a story on the resurgence of Ford in Oz. There was a lot of time spent interviewing Geoff Polites and some interesting things came up:

- the market share is only mid 13% because despite Ford building (and selling) every car they can make the rest of the market has also taken off dramatically
- no one knows why Australia has launched into record car buying numbers (it's callede EQUITY mmaaatttee!!!!!)
- Ford Oz returned only around $20m on over $500million investment which was poor (however they did not discuss projected earnings for this year)
- they showed video of Territory production
- they showed trim and colour boards in GP's office for the upcoming changes (I guess) which included some wild green and yellow shades

As usual GP was modest and underwhelming really. The average guy who happens to be at the top job.

maybe GP can comment? (mostly because we should know about these shows before they air on TV. I know I would have been real upset if I missed it) :s6:

Pete, they only taped the interview on Thursday so I just didn't expect it to be on so soon. We didn't tell any of our employees that it would be on and I didn't tell my sons, so I copped a bit from them when they found out about it. My best mate also called me within 30 seconds of it finishing to pay out on mefor not telling him at dinner the previous evening.(Luckily? he is a regular viewer so he saw it anyway. Ordinarily we would in fact send out some advance notice but this one " got through to the keeper ".

As long as Ford took $20mil of the $500mil profit , then this is great . More would be good , but profit is better than loss.
What really concerns me is the boss is only driving a HAD. :s6:

Great read. Certainly looks like next year will build on improvements so far in 2003.
