Buying a car in Melbourne, living in Sydney, what needs to be done?
Howdy, I am after some advice about what is the go with buying an interstate car (from VIC) and then bringing it back (to NSW)?
Do you need to get it re-rego'd? Does the amount of original (VIC) rego get transferred into NSW rego? Is there an interstate inspection service available (cost?)? And does anyone know where Cran-bourne and Traralgon are situated in relation to Melbourne (or even the airport!!)?
I am interested in this option for two reasons, the stupidly cheap airfares available at the moment, and these two cars, in particular the second one:
MAKE/MODEL: Ford XR6
PRICE: $7,000.00
TRANSMISSION: manual
FORD FALCON EB XR6, Black 5spd man, $2000 Pioneer 6CD/Stereo, a/c, p/s, c/locking, well maintained, just serviced, new tyres, reg.12/04, FOZ672, $7,000. Contact Cameron: (0414)924666 Cran-bourne.
MAKE/MODEL: Ford XR6
PRICE: $5,500.00
FORD XR6 EBII, 5spd, full Tickford body-kit, 16in Alloys, tint, 2.5in pipe, CD player, all Tickford options, 11mths reg, (ODF-814) $5,000 as is, RWCert can be supplied. (03)51977409 Traralgon.
Cheers.
PS if you think I am posting a lot at the moment when looking for a car, just wait until I actually have one!!!

When we moved back to WA we had to re-register it in WA.
You are allowed to run interstate plates for 6months here, and after that u are ment to change em. But i know ppl who still have them after a few years.
Im guessing u could have it in NSW untill rego expiered, then re do it with NSW plates.

I think thats only allowed if your moving interstate, rather than buying out of state.
Id be pretty careful to find out if your going to get hit with stamp duty twice.
