Hi

Purchasing a 2ndhand car with a RWC. Just want to know a couple of questions as normally bought thru a caryard

1. How hands in the transfer papers/RWC cert to vicroads? Can the seller or buyer do this?

2. Do I (the buyer) get to keep the RWC cert, or does Vicroads keep it. Reason i ask, the certificate is in my name (long story) and I may be able to sell the car 4 alot more and use the rwc cert, instead of going thru the rwc saga again.

So if i sold it again within 30 days, can i use this again as the rwc? The rwc is in my name and for the same car.

if its the same as NSW your rwc (pink slip) is valid for around 40 days, when you take it to vicroads (rta) with a ctp (green slip) you get rego and keep one copy of the rwc, once you have rego you have no use for a rwc...

this is totally unrelated to the change of ownership, in NSW the car will come with rego papers which dont have to be current. when you take these to vicroads (rta) they will put the car in your name rego or not, ive heard of people transfering ownership with only a reciept but probably not true...

could be totally different vic just give vicroads a buzz...

best idea would be to ring a vicroads office and ask them straight up.

they will be in the best position to be able to give the correct advise as to how things work,

if you ring up you wont need to tell them who you are if that is a problem.

Assuming you are in Victoria,the car dealer forwards all transfer paperwork to Vicroads after the deal is done.Yes,you should get a portion of the RWC to keep and yes,this can be used to transfer the car again if it's within 30 days of issue.
The only problem you may encounter is that Vicroads may take up to a few months to actually put the car into your name as they have such a large volume of work.

few months of work?

take the transfer and rwc in, pay the xfer fee, and ur done..

with mine, they gave me back the whole rwc....
