Buying Over The Net

I have an item that I want to buy from a person that is in OHIO.

What is the best way for me to get it to australia without getting into trouble with credit card fraud & stuff like that.

Has anyone here used PAYPAL and has anyone used CASH ON DELIVERY.

Is there anything I should get. Insurance, registered mail etc.

The item I am buying is $500au plus freight.

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

Paypal is great, have used it many times to buy things without any problems at all

they also offer insurance if its over $500 as well i think

Re: Buying Over The Net

You have 6 months to dispute the transaction if the goods are not delivered if you use your credit card.

I dont believe you have this protection with paypal

Re: Buying Over The Net

I beleive Paypal protection only applies to items sold on E-bay......I love Paypal and use it all the time but I dont think its any safer for you than credit card for this purchase.
I am sure you cant use cash on delivery as the way that works is that Aussie Post take the cash from you and then give a money order to the person you owe - they then go to Aussie post and get the cash......no Aussie Post in Ohio though......

Maybe if you confident enough to use your CC then get it sent via a system that has tracking , that way you have a tracking number and a company to deal with to give you peice of mind and some way to start back tracking if there is problems.

Hope that helps!

Re: Buying Over The Net

I've ordered several things over the internet, and haven't had any problems - apart from the time several companies didn't get my emails and I spent ages waiting for them

Re: Buying Over The Net

I've had a number of items shipped from the US through ebay and paypal etc. and havent had any problems at all.

Get it shipped through USPS at all costs (not literally), as its about half the cost to ship through them compared to UPS or DHL. Also with USPS they have a higher threshold on the price of the goods before you are slugged with import duties and taxes, compared to UPS. If you want, get the seller to list the cost of the item to be under about US$250 (and listed as a 'gift'), or you may end up paying ~$200 more for the item if customs do decide to slug you (however if you do this and your item doesnt arrive, then your postal insurance will only cover you for its 'said' value).

Also paypal is owned by eBay and offer protection in the event of fraud or other misuse of your money.

Good luck.
