Recently went back to Calder Park on a Friday nite to watch friends participating in off-street legal drags. Makes me think what the hell has happened to this place. Its not only disgusting but seems management there cannot even maintain the place (ie. keep lawns mowed etc). I can remember the days where the nationals used to be held there and boy did it pull a crowd. Now even the v8 supercars dont wanna go back there! Ive heard there trying to build a new track out in Western melb near laverton. Dont know if this is true but what is the future with Calder at the moment? Maybe its on its way out thats why the arnt spending money to maintain or upgrade it. Not to mention the bumps in the track it has too. Well, Thats the last time i will be goin back to that place. $18 to enter and watch i thought was a disgrace!!

Calder park will be a housing estate in a few years time. I wouldnt be suprised if they announced its closure as early as...well...today to be frank.

I once heard a rumour about this a few years ago. Something relating to calder park being unstable and a lake would be built with a new housing estate extending sydenham and taylors lakes

Well, I guess it's a fav spot for a particular group of car enthusiasts (jap cars mainly) coz it's not as far as Heathcote...no need to worry that their GT wings will fall off along the journey, or their bodykits melting due to the heat...

Sorry, I know my post is rubbish, just needed to let off some steam....it's bloody hot in Melbourne today.

I have to agree I don't like calder anymore.

It used to be the best track around but now I won't even bother. Even the staff there were rude, impatient and a couple of them had no clue at all.

The least they could do is repair that pathetic return road. I could not imagine trying to get up that in a race car with no suspention, it hurt enough in my lowered XF.

Heathcote may be out of town but at least they actually seem to care enough to maintain the track.

A race track in Laverton!? Since when has this been said? If there will be one around the environs then that place will be popular provided that it isn't expensive.

It's a shame Calder has been allowed to decay like it has. It was a great motorsports facility and still could be but I fear it will be eaten up by the growing suburban sprawl.

What's left in Melbourne?? Sandown and PI are just hanging on. If they go, that's it!!

Its been mentioned for a while now, almost 12 -18 months the rumours have been flying around

laverton has been canned, sold to developers..
PI has been sold to honda, no more car racing there....
sandown will be closed to all motorsports events, horsey's only...
AV jennings were gonna buy out calder to develop it for housing, they actually bought it, but due to the amount of tyres and other sorts of stuff used to fill the thunderdomw banks and hills etc, the cost to get rid of all this material is so big, they pulled out of the deal....
last i heard, bob jane and andra are talking over having andra sponsored events at calder again..
the cost to maintain calder is huge, street meets dont bring that much money in...maybe bracks can kick in a few $$$ (like nsw govt did for the new track) and get calder back to its former glory, the premier drag circuit, and get the nationals back...oh, but hes to busy licking his lips, counting all the revenue his tax camera's are bringing in...funny, but if theres no more places to legally stage motorsports events, where will we all go?
