why some movies on Kazaa, Ares, Imesh or whatever you download off don't play the whole movie. It's like you go to preview and it shows about 14 seconds even if you've downloaded over 100mb. Even the sound keeps playing...
I downloaded a movie ages ago that was supposed to go for 40 mins and the end result was just 14 but if you grab the little slider and drag it across you can view the rest of the movie but only a bit of it and if you move it further it shows a completley different bit.
I hope i'm making sense but it's pissing me off, anyone know if it can be fixed or is it just corrupted and unable to even work fully?
Chances are the codec is stuffed or you have the wrong ones.. Which would explain the 14 sec thing because keyframes are generally 10-30 secs apart which are used for self error checking, skipping, etc..
Its also because most people download illegal movies and thats bad for the film industry. I mean can you imagine if Nicole Kidman or Tom Hanks was only paid a million dollars because of budget cuts due to illegal downloading. Hollywood would go under!!

I get the same thing, slide the bar and it shows a different part that it previously skipped but only with the latest windows media player, never used to happen. Might go buy a media player soon, free stuff is usually crap.

I assume you mean that you havent finished downloading the file at this point. If that is the case, the reason you are seeing that is because the file is downloaded in parts, and these are not in order. You may have a 100meg file that has 5mins of the start and 12 near the end - it depends on what was available at the time.
Ive heard of instances where corrupted songs/programs are uploaded into file sharing programs like kazzaa to encourage people to buy the actual CD/program instead of d/l for free.
Also, i assume that as songs/videos are copied and reedited they degrade and end up with various abnormalities.

well the one i'm currently downloading hasn't yet finished but i've let one finish before and it does the same thing about 18 minutes of footage crammed into 5. I use Ares and it happens with the built in player and AViPreview aswell
