CAN System

Hello and greetings on a Summer Friday evening; hopefully the right lost soul is reading this. That lost soul would be a person that knows CAN systems pretty well. Or maybe they know someone that knows someone.

I have a Sprinter Van at work and I am having trouble with it and have tracked it down to what I think is a problem with the CAN system, but I need to talk with someone that is well versed in them.

Is there anyone that fits that description? I am in a bit of a pickle and would rather explain it all if I can talk with someone. Please PM me if you CAN help.:)

Thanks.

That will give a great overview, but I need to ask some specific questions to be sure I am thinking about some things correctly. Are you familiar with CAN systems and their workings?

Actually, I'm not even sure it's CAN related now that I think about more. It's about connecting to a controller via the DLC and the K-line system.

Re: CAN System

I worked on the systems before the CAN sytem came out, so I'm not that versed on them. What are you into that we may help with?

I have a Sprinter that I think I had the transmission connector unhooked when I started the engine. This set a code in the transmission that put it in Limp Mode. I went to the dealer to get it cleared and it wouldn't clear. After alot of back and forth and studying the wiring diagrams and troubleshooting, I found that the K-line from the TCU to the DLC is open. I finally realized that if the K-line is open, the scanner never talked to the TCU. - This is correct, correct?

So, if I dig in can't and find and fix the broken wire, why not just run another wire? Is there anything special about the wire? I know that the K-line just goes from Pin 11 on the DLC to Pin 1 on the TCU and pin 2A on the radio (which isn't used now). So why not just run that wire?

Am I over-thinking this and worrying over nothing?
