My mate drives a 2000 Celica SX 6 speed manual. I drive a 1996 EL XR6 5 speed, basically stock only has a K&N airfilter and a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust.
He reckon he's kick my arse. I told him you can never be too confident. I am quite sure his car would be marginally quicker, but do I stand a chance atall?

Originally posted by Jack_Travis Hard to predict without proper testing, but I'd expect that one car would have better straight-line acceleration, the other better handling.
Well we are talking about a 1/4 mile run. You would have to be reffering to the XR6 as better straight line becasue the Celica weighing 400kg less would obviously handle better.

It should be close, and would probably come down to the better driver actually.
Ive heard of Celicas running low 15s, and I think Smciner's brother ran a 14.9 in a stock EL XR6.
You have to absolutely thrash the tits off the Celica to get anywhere, like 4000Rpm clutch dump and 8000Rpm gearchanges, so if he's a bit of a softie when it comes to driving, then you should have no worries.
If all else fails go from a 60kmh roll, you should eat it alive from there.

He absolutely thrashes the ringer out of it. I'm supprised the clutch isnt gone now. I havnt driven his car but mine seems to have alot more torque low down, and on hills he's always dropping back a few cogs while mine cruises easily up hills in 4th.
My mates got a lot more practise in his car than I have in mine, I only picked mine up a few weeks ago. I'll post the outcome when We actually do race.

After driving my parents Celica SX when they had it and also beating a couple after a few runs against them in an 1999 RX Impreza. I can honestly say, unless you make a mistake, he wouldn't catch an EL XR6.
