Im getting my firsty car, I have max 8k to spend (which doesn't include insurance). The car I get must be the following-:
1. Rear Wheel drive
2. Above average performance
3. look Good in and out
4. Be reliable
5. Manual
6. Fairly Fuel Effecient
Right now Im waiting on an RACV check for a car (which is setting me back $200). I have picked out a 1984 BMW 528i Motorsport. It has a 5 speed, ABS, air con, pwr steer, sunroof, all service books, 213 000k, its looks A1 in and out and has a 3 year warrenty.
Personally I love this car. I know its not a Ford, but Ford doesn't really offer me anything that fits my critera and price range. EB's and ED's are ok but for my cash (and being in VIC) there is nothing that Ford produce that fits what I want. But i am open to suggestions!
The only problem is that hypothetically if something happens to the BMW is gonna cost a fair bit to get fixed. I am definatly waiting for the RACV check which has to come up pretty good.
Whats your opinion?..Dont get me wrong I love Ford, but there is just nothing out there.

NOTHING OUT THERE!!!! youre either a ford man or you aint. there is nothing inbetween. Im only new to this ford forums business but to think there are people who are willing to forget everything they live for in a rash decision is a worrying thought. And to swap sides for a crappy old beamer, my god. i think you should go look in the mirror and decide what's really important.

yeah well done potentialbuyer...thanks for that advice, even though you know nothing about cars.
For everyone else..potenialbuyer lives across the street from me. We got our licences on the same day and are both looking for cars. Its kinda freaky actaully.
Anyway..what do you people think about the car?

Yeah if you have serious mechanical probs with the BM then it will cost ya. It would be good to be different in a 528 Motorsport, are they rare? But then again its no Ford is it?
My old man had a 84 Volvo 760 GLE biggest piece of shyte. Motor ****ed it constantly and he ended up getting it rebuilt (instead of opting for the V6 Holden conversion) only for it to go again with water in the oil. mmmm. So he traded it for a Proton. Parts were pretty exy.
Its good to look for something with 'above average performance' so then you dont spend heaps trying to squeeze more power out of what was originaly gutless. What aftermarket stuff can you get for a 528 BM without going to Germany?
Are you looking for a newish car, if not what about a GT replica or tuff old Ford? Sure you dont get 5spd, air, etc but it would have above average performance (maybe) and a good note to the exhaust. Just dont rush your decision and buy something you REALLY want.
I made that mistake and ended up with a Mini. Great little car, all hotted up and got all the looks but just wasnt the car for me. Its the BLUE blood you see.

Don't forget, parts are/will be more expensive in the long run for the BMW. Either way, do yourself a favour and get whatever car you buy thoroughly checked over before any money changes hands.
dont know how many times i give the same advice...get an rs2000.
1. Rear wheel drive. also short wheel base so very chuckable (not that i advocate that sort of thing).
2. above average performance...just bring it!
3. look good in an out...what looks better?
4. reliable. they are, and they are easy to fix. (i challenge you to locate and change the bimmers alternator...hell, i challenge you to locate the battery :s6: )
5. manual. easier to find a manual than an auto.
6. fairly fuel efficient. well, um, not bad if you show restraint. however, with a car that kicks like an rs2000, very hard to be gentle.
see, problem solved:s6:
seriously, the bimmer could end up costing you big $$$. lovely car, but as adiviliax said, very soon it will have done some big kms.
good luck
