yep... it will happen whilst inexperieinced drivers do stupid things. The media only want to sell a story.. they dont mention the other 30,000 P Platers that didn't kill themselves that night.
Unfortunatley they are the facts mate undeniable, responsible reporting??? thats debatable, but any new restrictions as a result are the fault of certain young drivers, plain and simple. The motoring public will demand some action as a result which will be a kneejerk reaction to a horrific situation.
The question has to be asked, would driver training have helped in this situation, my guess would be probably not. A kick up the arse and a stern word about respecting a motor vehicle and its limitations...... maybe?
Its a shame to see youngsters end up like this and im not old but I have a son and if he died or killed someone else as a result of an act of stupidity well id be a mess.
i was browsing fowles.com.au for a wrecked motorbike engine to put on a go-kart (long term project), and i wandered into the "Damaged" section, and i found it quite interesting that most of the cars that were in there written off (by what i would assume was the drivers actions) didnt have P plates...
So is it a case of crashes involving P platers are more advertised or do they actually occur more often?

Still goes to say, that a small minority of "P" drivers tarnish it for ALL "P" drivers.
The 80 year old that has a heart attack and wipes out ten PPL, doesn't rate a mention, unless he was on "P"'s

Just because they don't have P plates doesn't mean anything !!!
Most the trouble these days is they drive like they;re still playing ps2 etc..
I grew up in the country and was driving farm equipement at the age of 8.By the time I had my licence at 15 I KNEW all the pitfulls etc of driving...
We also had car club days on the farm and did heaps of rallycross & gymkana type events...That was way before I got my licence and drove on road..
Where do you get this type of knowledge and experiance these days ???

Only good thing about the report was that they said the government is thinking about giving young drivers training like advanced/defensive driving courses.
Also my condolences to the families that lost someone in the accident.

You simply can't if you live anywhere but the country, and that is pretty poor really. Driver training courses should be compulsory for L-platers! I'm not talking learning how to brake, i mean controlling a skid or slide and whatever. I am so thankful for my dad buying me a go-kartwhen i was 5. Then at 8 he gave me a toyota hilux for me and my then 6-year-old brother to learn to drive in around our 130-acre farm. I find driving quite tense at times, and i'd hate to think what it'd be like had i learnt to drive at 16 like ever kid who grows up in the city...

PS. I realise that buy learning to drive at an early age i have learned only car control and not road smarts, but that isn't my point.
