I have found one with 3.2 megapixels, 3x digital zoom, and 16mb of memory for $130.
You can get these at strathfield or at GO-LO.
Im not a pro photographer and almost all of the pictures will remain on the computer so I think a cheap 3.2 megapixel is the way to go. Zoom isnt really big for me either as I like taking pictures of people/cars close up. Therefore optical zoom would be a waste of money for me.
My question is are these cameras really crap? Should I spend a little bit more and get something for $170-$200.
How many pics will the memory stick hold with 16 mb?
Can you just get a bigger memory stick for this paticular camera?
Can you guys give me a rough idea about memory sticks: mb=how many pics=cost? eg 16, 32, 64, 100, 250 etc, etc
Anyone know of a cheaper and better camera out there?

I bought my panasonic for $170 (mates rates), and she is great, 3.2 megapixel. However, you will need a bigger memory card if u want to take good quality pics. I have a 62MB card and i can take on average, 50 or so pictures atthe highest quality. on a lower quality pic i can store a few hundres... it really depends what you want it for...
I have a Panasonic Lumix and it is a really good camera for everything i want it for (cars, people, partys etc). I suggest it to anyone who likes to have extra features but doesn't wanna have a million dollar camera...
Hope i could help you... I can find out the actual price of this camera if you are interested, i can also sell one to you through my other halfs work... let me know...

Thanks for the quick reply. Your camera sounds pretty good. Although if it was $170 mates rates it might be out of my price range. I am only going to spend $200 at the absolute most. I would prefer to get the one for $130 though, if it seems to be ok.
Will I have the feature where I can choose what quality I want each individual picture on the $130 camera? This sounds like a pretty important feature. I wouldnt mind having it.
i would *deffinately* be after something with a 3x optical zoom, as much as u say u don't need it, it is the most used feature on my digital camera.
Perhaps look at a 2nd hand camera?

Digital zoom is useless, as you are just cropping the picture you are taking, not actually technically zooming in, get OPTICAL zoom, and the more the optical the better, the digital zoom should be ignored when considering a camera.

Anything from GO-LO is crap... you should know that
On a serious note $130 is a small budget for a digital camera so known brands are pretty much out of the question. Anything for that price is basic with limited features, so unless you get a faulty one there's not really that much to think about. A good idea would be to look on ebay for an a decent camera a couple of years old, they are usually better than newer no name brands
16mb holds about 30 large pictures and about 70 smaller images so unless you go on holiday with it you won't need much more.

Ok, what brand is it? A 16mb stick will hold about 20 shots, an ideal size would be a 128mb, which will hold roughly 140 high quality shots and cost around $80. And if you buy a camera with only digital zoom, i will personally find out where you live and kick your ass!
