A Christmas Prediction

I may well be getting senile but I noted during tonights episode of "The News According To Packer Media" that the counting of Christmas accident figures has already commenced and I smell a statistical rat here. In days gone by, we used to start counting this sad number on Christmas eve and stop counting at midnight on New Years Day - a total of eight days. This year we will be counting from December 19th until the end of January 1st - a total of 13 days.

Now there are two points to be made here.

Firstly - it would seem reasonable that this will lead to a record year for the Xmas road toll (sadly), which in turn will provide additional fuel for the further invasion of our motoring freedoms (assuming that's actually possible in the State of Victoria). Look for the shock/horror media beat up coming to a fish wrapper / television / copy of No Idea, near you.

Secondly (and more importantly) - let's ensure that all of us take extra care during this holiday period so that we don't become part of those statistics. Enjoy the time with family, friends and others but stay safe.

Yes Russs, as usual your our wealth of knowledge.
This must have been implimented by the Victorian Government, to give more reasons for more speed camera's to raise more revenue.
Merry Christmas.
Drive safe

Re: A Christmas Prediction

I was of the same opinion when I saw the bulletin on one of the news updates with 4 deaths already this christmas break.

I thought to myself "hold the phone & back the truck up a miniute" what did they just say?

Yet another ploy to decive the motoring public? Conspiracy or not I think you are right on the money Russ.

Re: A Christmas Prediction

Indeed. I think i recall something on NZ radio regarding the xmas road toll (in the present tense. not future tense)

I believe traditionally it has also been from 24th 6pm through to NY.

Keep safe people. There are lots of nutters on the roads this time of year.

Re: A Christmas Prediction

You would think that deceiving the public by using deaths was a bit far for the media to go......obviously not.
