ive noticed in fairmont ghias that when the ignition is on that the interior command centre(icc) screen goes blank after a 20 or so seconds untill you touch a function just like a computer screen saver or maybe its too stop the driver getting distracted?

anyway i wondered if anyone has noticed if it applys to premium sound on a XR as i havent yet driven a XR with premium fitted and if it cant be turned off so it stays on?

This is a feature in the TFT screen that can be switched on and off on all of the colour screens, XR with premium sound included. What you can do is have the screen on all the time or have it switching off after a few seconds like you have found. The way to change the mode it is in is by switching the ignition on to at least accessories and then with the radio switched on press and hold the volume control knob down until a beep is heard or the screen changes. Do this again and it will change back. I think its better to have it only on when you change a mode or volume especially at night. I wonder how many warranty claims might be made for a cutting out screen! hope this helps some. I wish you could do the same to the silver/green screens on the other models

i think it comes from the AU's satilite navigation screen that was too bright at night, and people complained. they must have listened!!!! The AU sat nav screen can be operated in the same way from memory but the surround has to be removed to operate the button.

i agree might be a bit bright for night driving, shame it doesn't have a dimmer button.

still doesn't drop the lighting down far enough IMO.

The early prototype ones didn't dim at all and we used to run around with a cardboard square taped over the screen at night. It made it to hard to see the 'roos.

commodores and there two screens on the VY is a bit odd and I would have thought it would cost more to do it there way!!

not complaining at all, just interesting how different companies go about doing the same thing in totally different ways.
