coloured wheels

what are peoples thoughts on coloured wheels? just about every car has silver wheels. why?
you look back at cars like brock's blue vk and it looked good with the optional white wheels. there was the xe esp with it's gold wheels, and you got to admit that was an excellent looking package. go back further to the chrome magnums, with black centres, that were optional on '69-'70 stangs and they were tuff as well.
i reckon you can make a car look very special with the right coloured wheels, only thing is you don't see it often enough.
cost could well be a consideration due to most coloured wheels being 2 or 3 piece which means they are damned expensive. eg. have you priced a set of simmons lately? phew.
anyway i'd like to see some peoples opinions on this. how about it?

i guess its just one of those things, it's always been that way. and it will probably always been that way.

anyone check out the yellow spare tyre in the VT GTS? I thought they looked quite stupid really. I don't understand why it was coloured.

I like silver as a wheel colour, I hate black (ala VR GTS-R), I hate gold (ala WRX STi), the only color that could be used is white, and I still wouldnt see myself using that.

But thats just my opinion.

my step brother has a VX Clubbie R8 in the tungsten colour which is sort of a silvery gold (if that makes sense). He also has the same colour mags, and it actually looks heaps better than the standard ones.

Great topic Nak,
Personally i Love white wheels & Gold/Champagne(ala EB/EB GT), if its on the right wheel. You paint the wrong wheel the wrong colour , or it dosn't go with the car colour it looks shit.

My opinion on Black wheels, is they to look shit. They remind me of stlle wheels without hubcaps.

Bring back white/gold wheels

My wheels used to be silver but they're now a nice shade of brake dust grey.

I don't mind silver/gold/white, but one thing I can't stand is colour coded wheels. Red cars with red wheels seem to look the worst

Agreed. I also love the colouring, and the wheels for that matter on the EB/EL GT's. Looks magic on a car that is the right colour. Burgundy, Dark Green and Black most especially.

I think wheels should be the colour of metals. Chrome, gold, silver, deep brake dust grey (like the 18" on a factory R34 GT-R)

Anything else just looks a bit wrong, although white does work reasonably well on things like the mitzi Evo.

I could possibly see anodised blue, red, purple, green working if done tastefully.

Mate,

I always wanted to steer away from the chrome/silver coloured wheels, so I bought a set of ROH Z-Series wheels in anodize blue. It set the car off and was tasteful.

very nice xf mate...there is a VP HSV SSV380 (or what ever those 6 cylinder ones where) that is purple and has purple mags....looks good for a late model holden.

Personaly I think the gold wheels look good one certain cars...sti's look nice.

White is hard to pull off...although I think that the KH and KF TX3 lasers had white alloys and didn't look to bad.

Silver is just a colour that looks good with juts about anything..I do like the smokey alloys as well.
