Commodore fails blind spot test

Just saw on the news this morning that the NRMA tested a lot of cars on sale here for blind spot when reversing and gave them a rating out of 5 stars.

Best was 4 out of 5 which included Renault Cleo, Holden Barina, Suzuki Ignis (my wifes car).

Worst was Holden Commodore VX sedan which did not even rate a score. A big ZERO!!!. The VX Commodore wagon only scored half a star.

The Falcon on the other hand was up around 2.5 stars from memory.

Moral of the story, don't go anywhere near a reversing Commodore!!!

I reckon thats all crap... I always check behind my car before reversing out of a driveway/car park before getting in it.

You just have to pay 110% attention all the time when reversing.

That is the very first thing I noticed in my first drive of a VT/VX series. I had to back it up a driveway, and I was quite surprised at the high bootline. It was actually the first thing I commented on to my friend who owns it, and him coming from a modified EF2 Ghia (now obviously a sinner!), agreed heartily. But like most things, he had become used to it and only when I made the point of mentioning it did he remember how his old Ghia was for rear vision.

Tis an interesting topic though, and should extend to include B-pillar visibility. Have been in some downright dangerous cars for that!

While you are at it, go check out just how poorly the Commodore does against the Falcon in the crash tests:

Hmmm....yest another reason to buy a Ford. Interesting.

Was you on the turps when you posted this - the latest results, 2001, have the Commodore and Falcon at 4 stars each !

In previous years they alternated between marginal and acceptable between the two marques.

I saw the results on TV last night and from what I remember the VX (0 STARS) was 16.8 m blind spot and the VY (1 1/2 STARS) was a few metres better but a long way off the BA (2 1/2 STARS). From watching the story I think a 2 1/2 star rating would have to be about as good as you could get from vehicles of this size.

Ummm excuse me? Lets have a closer look shall we (Assuming you didnt bother to open the URL)

For starters. The VX Commodore and Falcon both got 3 stars....not 4.

Offset Crash Test:
AUII Forte: 11.07 out of 16
VX Commodore: 3.77 out of 16

Overall Evaluation:
AUII Forte: 71%
VX Commodore: 50%

The Falcon was just short of earning a four star rating. The Commodore was a long way behind.
