in the New Zealand Herald there was an article on the NZ Governments ministers cars and the fuel economy they were getting (the fuel that us taxpayers are paying for) and the two worst cars were VX Commodore 3.8s recording 16l/100km. there were numerous other cars, 2nd worse being a VW Passat with 14.5l/100km. but there were also approx 5 AU (I-III) Falcons and Fairmonts that were all 11.5l/100km and the Prime Minister, Helen Clarkes 98 Diamante (aka Magna) was also 11.5l/100km
i'm sure they're not all lead foots or pussy foots but it does show that the Commodore isnt the saint and the Falcon the Villain as Spamburger tries to make out
Would be interesting to note if those commodores were dual fuel vehicles. I drive a dual fuel VT wagon and it doesn't seem you ever get the best of both fuels.
apparently mitsibishi (wrong spelling i know) are wanting to change the name of magna. It has a few different names and well they want to make it a universal one but haven't decided on one yet!!

Sounds like the 3.8s get given a bit of a run. My bosses SS gets 24L per 100 in the city as he gives it a hard time, no one in sydney really has a gen3 getting less than 16L/100, if they do a bit of highway they can pull 13L but thats about it.
More to the point- NZ newspapers went into detail about how much fuel govt cars were drinking ? Man you guys must have slow news days. Who gives a flying *expelitive deleted* ?
I believe most owners' manuals have under fuel economy, line one: Check driver habits? Any injected car will drink it if you thrash it. Try 12.5L/100km from a 1.8 corolla, or 47L/100km from a VS V6 auto.

City - yes
Highway - I've got mine down to 10l/100k on a Syd-Mel run (used 85L for a 890k trip).
