Ok people, I think I already know the answer to this, but I have to ask anyway.

I've just finished reformatting my HDD (C drive), got windows going again, etc, all is sweet.

The problem is that I was in DOS and was playing with fdisk to modify/delete partitions on that drive.
Unfortunately, I somehow managed to swap drives (went into my D drive)
and it looks like I've killed it.
I haven't formatted it, only deleted and re-added the partition it had before.
(Don't ask, I didn't realise what I'd done until it was too late!!).

Now back in 'My Computer', the D drive is coming up empty, and in the properties it shows the file type as 'raw'.
I assume this is because I changed to original partition, and haven't formatted it yet like I had to when I regurgitated the C drive disc.
I don't want to format unless I really have to, because then I KNOW I will lose all my data.
I believe it needs to be converted back into FAT32 or whatever it is, but the only way I know how to do this is to format....

Is there a converter, or a program or SOMETHING that I can fix this with??

I'm simply devasted as it looks like I've lost all my photos, all my Ford stuff, heaps of work stuff, everything................

Any assistance would be most appreciated!

Think you stuffed it, BUT, look on the net there a few programs to recover the data, most run iin a demo mode will tell you they can it all back, but you have to buy it to use it to recover, find one that appears to work, buy it, and be careful next time.

As far as I know once you reboot it is all gone, but have a look around just in case like dellboy said.

I did as you suggested Dellboy, initial results look reasonable.
It appears to have found something but I don't know what.
Had to fang it into work so I wouldn't be late!

Will continue to look into it this afternoon......
Warra, what do you mean by reboot? Does just by re-starting (re-booting?) the PC make it enough to wipe the data?? I hope not!! :o

re-booting, will cause the temperory magnetic image of the data to be lost, but as you did not delete the data, is mostly irrelevant, you did a partion remove and re-create, so what is there is there, regardless of number of re-boots.

But no re-boot after you delete something gives you a 99% chance of recovery.

Ooops!
I'd learn from the mistake and reinstall again. Once you remove a partition it's gone and so is everything that was in there. It sounds like you've gone too far to recover the data to me. It's a pain in the @rse I've done the same thing and cried over it because I lost so much stuff.

id agree, from what i know, it would seem lost, but also give what dellboy said a go because ive heard of miraculous things from teh right sorta data recovery programs lol

i dont think a system restore would ahve the capability to bring back deleted partitions?

yea, a system restore wouldnt be able to bring back files from a deleted partition...

I hope you can get your info back... I spose make sure you have all your stuff backed up!!!

If you find a program and if it needs a registration key, you could if you wanted to go to a site to get a key... Not that i do this at all, or am i agreeing with it...

www.cracks.am I hope you have a pop up filter... If you find the software you are after, click on it, and this window will come up, and the option is either yes or no... Keep pressing no 3 or 4 times, and then it will stop coming up, and then you can download the zip file that either contains a crack or a key...

I know this not from experience at all...
