Conversion Complete! i'm so happy hehehe

At 7:30 this morning the ACE mobile auto elec came out to my place to get the old beast up and running again. He did all the usual stuff, checked for fuel and spark. It had both so he said it must be the timing. Now theres a bit of a story here....yesterday Dad was helping me with the timing. I remembered someone on the board said that you have to make sure it sparks on TDC on the COMPRESSION STROKE. I Think it was jamesk. Anyway, I was trying to explain to dad that the crankshaft has to go around twice for a piston to go UP and DOWN. He disagreed saying that it only goes around one revolution to make the piston go up and down. So there was no point argueing so we set the timing again without checking if it was on compression stroke or not.

Anyway, when the mechanic came out this morning, he found that the dizzy was 180deg out....in other words it was firing each cylinder when the piston was at the bottom of the cylinder...therefore it wasn't starting. He had to remove the dizzy and re-adjust the timing 3 times before he got it right. Even then the car ran like shit but at least it was going. He suggested getting some new spark plugs cause it sounded like it was missing. If that still didn't fix it he said get the injectors removed and tested. I was happy enough with that...at least the car was going.

Then just before he left he took one last look at the engine and noticed the MAP sensor vacume line had come off. Plugged it back in and wouldn't u know it...the car ran beautifully! I was ****in stoked! So anyway it's all good!

First impressions of the conversion are that it was well worth it. I floored it out of our street and the wheel spun which it never used to do, so there is definately more power. I just have to fix a small leak from the thermostat and adjust the kickdown cable cause it's holding gears for way too long. Also, I broke the handbrake cable when I parked it so I have to replace that too.

But for now...I'm gonna go driving :)

BTW, THANKS HEAPS to everyone who helped me out with this conversion especially Brent79, jamesk and bass_crazy who probably got annoyed I kept ringing him so many times hehe :)

PS: the EA goes down the workshop tomorrow for the T5!! CAN'T WAIT!

Hey Doug, that's great news man, well done on the whole conversion. Are you going to the meet on Sunday? I'd love to have a look at it.
