Speeding Offences:

Exceeding speed limit by 45km/h or more 6 points
Exceeding speed limit by 30km/h or more 4 points
Exceeding speed limit by 15km/h or more 3 points
Exceeding speed limit by less than 15km/h 1 point

Conduct Endangering life - 5 points 6 month loss of license

3 Demerit points:

Disobeying traffic control signal or police directing traffic
Failing to give way
Failing to give way to pedestrian at a marked foot or school crossing
Driving without a seatbelt
Driving with unrestrained passenger under 18
Crossing or driving on off-side of unbroken separation line
Disregarding Notice of Unroadworthiness (defect notice)
Careless driving
Improper overtaking or passing
Overtake stationary vehicle at children's or pedestrian crossings
Overtaking or attempting to overtake without clear view or creating risk of collision or danger
Keep left unless overtaking on multi-laned roads (when "Keep Left Unless Overtaking" signs appear)

Failing to give way at crossover
Failing to keep left when passing tram
Overtaking or passing vehicle other than with other vehicle on left side of the motor vehicle
Turning or stopping without signalling
Failing to ensure signalling device is switched off

Failing to keep left of approaching vehicles

1 Demerit point:

Failing to dip headlights
Driving at night without headlights and taillights on
Driving vehicle at night without dipping device

Accumulate points over a 3 year period:

-12 to 15 points you lose your right to drive for 3 months
-16 to 20 points you lose your right to drive for 4 months
-over 20 points you lose your right to drive for 5 months.

"Overtaking or passing vehicle other than with other vehicle on left side of the motor vehicle"

So....this means that if you get stuck behind someone in the right hand lane doing 60 in a 110 zone, you are NOT allowed to pass them on the left.
I'm surprised the Police don't purposely do this so that they can fine you when you pass them on the left.

Move to the Northern Territory

No points system and no open road speed limit

I miss that open road@170, my cruise control is still cofused at numbers below 140.
