Denatured Alcohol...what the?

ok i need to know what the hell is Denatured Alcohol? its suggested i use this to clean my nitro truck (R/C) after its used. so i was wondering, for the simple people, what is it generally known as and where do you get it? is there a substitute?
anyone out there own a Traxxas Maxx of any sort that is non electric? any tips i should know about?
just done the run in today and towards the end it cut out a few times and was also spitting out unburnt fuel the whole time. i left it running rich as it was lubricating better for the run in. now thats done i wanna tune it up so i can get some good top speed. the book has suggestions but is there an easy way or some general tips people might have?
also the front wheels arent straight either (thats from the factory). it doesnt run straight and i cant correct it from the fine tuning on the radio controller.

Taken from here:

Stopping here along the way... :s6:

Denatured, or industrial, alcohol is ethanol to which poisonous or nauseating substances have been added to prevent its use as a beverage; a beverage tax is not charged on such alcohol, so its cost is quite low.
In other words, it's Methylated Spirits. I think...

Re: Denatured Alcohol...what the?

i found that using metho to clean my truck did leave residue, and also destroyed some rubber components (i.e. carby dust boot, shock o-rings etc). I'd give specialty nitro car cleaner (or electric motor spray) a go. it is expensive though (you buy it from your hobbie store). As for tuning, just go by the instructions. Make incremental adjustments (i.e. 1/16 turns at a time). You'll learn it pretty quickly. Just lean it out to a point where theres still plenty of blueish smoke, but peformance is decent. Otherwise, happy trucking!
