Did Ford ever make a 4 cyl Falcon??? - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

Can any members confirm or deny the existance of a "factory" Ford Falcon powered by a 4 cyl motor.

We have a customer at work asking questions about one. The model in question is XD.

Well I have never heard of one, seeing as even the TD cortina wich was before XD falcons came out with a six, I doubt it.

The engine that springs to mind is the 173 pusuit motor the had in the early X-series falcons. Im sure there was a smaller ci capacity motor than that but not sure.

But other than what Dellboy said, they didnt make 4cyl falcon motors for the full body sedans that I know of.

Im no history buff, I could be wrong.

I've seen the "at least the falcon's never had a four potter" thrown at a Holden guy... and I've never heard of one. And the XD was pretty huge, a four cylinder would struggle like buggery to get the thing moving.

So in my, highly in experience, unknowledgeable, untrustworthy, one eyed oppinion; no it never happened.

Never been a 4 banger Falcon Holden tried it with the Commo & failed but Ford (for once) were smarter then that

AFAIK Ford had never put a 4 cylinder in a Falcon.

They had a shitty 3.2l (6?) carby in the EA! Just as bad if you ask me!!

Ford did look at putting the 2.3L Pinto OHC Four from America in the XD but quickly decided that weight reduction and making the six cylinder engine more efficient was a better idea.
