differences between 1.5 and 1.8 1996 lancer? - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

im looking at buying a runaround car and i found a 1996 4 door Gli lancer. the thing is the owner says its a 1.8, but according to redbook and AAMI the Gli only came out with 1.5. there was no marking on the engine/anywhere to suggest it was either so i am not sure. could someone please tell me what to look for to be able to tell what one it is, like if theres any differences which would allow me to tell what engine it is, better yet if someone has a pic of an engine bay of a 1.8 or 1.5 that would be good. this is fairly urgent so any help or just a point into a lancer forum would be much appreciated!

If i recall, the 1.5 was carburetted, the 1.8 was fuel injected (so you should be able to tell by looking at it).

The 1.5L sux basically, but if all you want to do is potter around it's fine (a friend had one).

i'm guesing the owner will tell you anything to get you to buy the car!.

You could try writing down the VIN number and ringing mitusuishi too.

the 1.5's are injected....well from around 94-95 onwards. i found out that it is a 1.5 instead of the 1.8 which i was hoping it would be. guess i will have to continue looking for a car
