I was told today that a hyundai excel dont need to be tuned, just a service what other cars don't need tunes or is this wrong..

Then I asked myself was does a tune do? or change.... anyone..

eventually all cars will need a tune up as they age and wear out. maybe yours is in good nick?

With most new cars when you get a service, they plug car into computer, that tells whats to be done, some iv'e been told even automatically tune it.

Hhahahah, my car hasnt been near a workshop for years, i just keep an eye on the plugs, leads and all the other stuff.
Still runs fine.
Modern cars dont need tuning as such as often.

My friend had an R32 Skyline GTS-t and said to tune it, all he needed to do is take out then re-install the ECU to reset the computer. The tune up work is done via the ECU now, so resets to factory default should do the trick. Watching the plugs and leads is still necessary.

i think tune-ups went when fuel injection come along, carbys need to be fiddled with, where as if your efi sensors etc are all working ok its fine. Just a service.

yup now days its just a case of oil and filters and plugs and leads when thay pack it in not like the old days of points and carbys

These days with the advanced electronics and computer controls the car's ECU knows how to maintain the performance its been designed to achieve. Also how to protect itself against damage. With spark plugs lasting 100,000km, really all you need to do is change the oil, oil filter and observe the spark plugs when you are in 'regular' motoring mode.

If you are after more performace than the car gets delivered with then you have more advanced tuning and maintenance aspect.

45,000km service coming up - and i'll be asking for a sizable list of fixes:
* Gearbox (3rd time)
* Steering click (5th time)
* Brake Shudder (2nd time, and has the applied "Fix")
* etc...

All engines require some tune, modern all electronic engines require less maintainance than their older siblings but will still benefit from electronic tune. I think with the Hyundia Excel the confusion lies with how do you tell a tuned engine from all the others.
