Max Cameron, a professor at MUARC is a profound believer in covert speed camera programs saying hidden cameras provide the best deterrent to rogue motorists. His recent paper says that within so many kilometeres of a covert speed camera site accidents/fatalities (or whatever profound lotto ball generated factor he rolls out) reduce by 20% or something like that.

Well, just like other hypocrites such as Haermeyer (VIC Police Minister) it seems Max Cameron is a regular contributor to Greed camera revenue coffers (booked three times):

Rise up people and keep writing to your elected politicians saying what a crock the speed kills mantra really is.

I think the speed camera's on the Western Ring Road in Melbourne are the biggest rip off ever. They are hidden under bridges and painted to match their surroundings. Wouldnt it be a bigger and more effective deterrent to have them stand out! Visual deterrents would be a bonus to stop speeders, they can see the camera that will book them! The government continues to hide them though, this way they gain more revenue from people who dont travel the roads and dont know that they are there.

Everyone knows it, but the politicians are just so hooked on the revenue that they cant let it go. We just have to convince them it's not in their best interests to have them.

what they forever fail to realise is that the increasing the stress of driving on the road makes people more likly to lash out in road rage.
The whole speed camera setup makes me so damn angry....
I really seriously would love to get every car group in the state to block the 2 lanes infront of SA parliment house in protest on North ter and king william. I'd need about 300 cars to make a nice impact and as many more people as we can get.

I wonder how long it will be till such a thing is organised. I'd be there for sure.

exactly, did anyone happen to see any figures in regards to traffic fines in the latest budget released yesterday? it was some huge amount. Without the speeding fines in mexico the government would have been stuffed when it comes to money.

I wish they would stop pulling themselves over this speed kills

and just admit that they need the money from the fines. It would be interesting to see what would happen if everyone stopped speeding and they lost that form of income....

if everyone stopped speeding theyd get you for J walking and other stupid stuff.
speed doesnt kill...its the sudden stop that does.

If that happened they would work out a way to confuse the motorist into speeding anyhow. Variable speed signs, confusing changes in speed 3 or 4 times on the same road, ZERO tolerance instead of the measly 3km they give us now. They will work it out, they will get the money somehow!

In New Zealand the police now have a new greed camera policy - Anywhere, anytime. This basically means they're taking down signs, etc. Does anyone else think that there is no reason for there to be cameras at a blackspot if people don't know to slow down for it?
