doing my tax

ok well that time of the year his here, and i should of had this done by now I know.

im using the etax thing, which i used last year and was good. But I cant remember where i put my NOA (notice of assesment), actually i cant even remember if i got one in the first place.

So I am meant to get one every year? I have last years but im guessing the date of issue and sequence number is going to be different. Ahh, ive done everything expect for the two above and i cant lodge it without them!

So what can I do? ring the ato and ask for another to be sent.

Cheers.

Allan

Re: doing my tax

Yep, ring the ATO. You probably should have recieved one.

Of course, you could always go to a tax accountant, and leave it up to them to do.

Re: doing my tax

ring the tax place and theyll ask you about your last tax return and some other questions then they will give you your sequence number ( i think its the same each year) and also tell you when you lodged last year along with anything else you need to know.

Re: doing my tax

I think you can use up to a 5 year old NOA. At least I did and it still worked...

Re: doing my tax

yes you can use an old NOA. AFAIK, the sequence number should all be the same. I have used etax for the last 3 years, its the best form of doing your tax if you can understand the jargon, and its FREE. Plus last year, I had my return come back to me within 5working days after lodging it. Just make sure you have reciepts of everything you claim incase you get audited.

Re: doing my tax

You can use a NOA that is up to five years old, which is the time period you must retain all tax records from memory. Just read the instrctions its all there

I agree Etax is the best thing.

Re: doing my tax

i did mine by etax too, i did mine etax last year too and didnt recieve a NOA, so i just rang the ATO and they gave it to me, with provided details of course, check the site out to see what you have to give them, i think its full name, current postal address, D.O.B, bank account details, and theres a few other things you have to pick from, you need three, so make sure you have them handy.

etax is a good way to go about doing your tax, i did mine, bout a week and a half ago, and i got my money just after one week of putting it in :d, much better then wait 6 weeks if i sent it via snail mail

Yes that is true, but for the small amount of money that I'll get extra thru the accountant, it will be spent paying the accountant himself. I realise you could claim that expense back on the next tax return but I would prefer it if I didnt have to spend it in the first place. Its a catch 22 situation imo. Difference is that I get my return sooner than when the accountant say I would. Plus you can do etax in the comfort of your own home.
