Has anyone ever tried to download a movie from the web and ended up downloading it as a text file and can't open it....I use Netscape 7.0 and have found this happening a lot recently, not sure why.

I think the trick is to hold down "shift" or perhaps "control" as you click the link, that should counter the problem

Either that or view the HTML sourcefile, the link to the moviefile
is located in, and just copy and paste that into your adressbar.

Neither worked, but I've narrowed the problem down to *wmv* files only.

I think there is some plugin required but I couldn't appear to fix it.

Any other suggestion would be welcome!

Try right-clicking the link, "Save target link as...", then using Windows Media Player or whatever to play the file.

try right clicking "open with" then select your player.

or change the file extension name to *.mov or *.avi until it plays

Thanks guys for your help....I tried a few of different things and the one that worked perfectly was to 'copy link location' by right clicking the file in Netscape, and pasting it into the address bar of the 'open URL' option in the 'file' menu of Windows Media Player.

I wouldn't have had this problem if I was using Internet Explorer ('cos I tried opening *wmv* files in IE and it works fine), but I have made the change to Netscape and didn't want to end up having to revert back to IE to carry out some functions.
