I have driven a VT Crumbledoor today for the first time.

As a Die-Hard Ford Man, I hate to say it, but I was very impressed.

I found these Points:

* Commodore is Very Very Quiet (Apart from the engine) - AUII Is very noisy - road noise - suspension clunks from the back

* Commodore interior is not as bland as AUII - (IT ****s all over AU1 Interior)

*V6 is CRAP. Falcon Engine is MUCH BETTER, QUIETER, SMOOTHER and MORE RESPONSIVE.

*Commodores Brakes are ALOT better than Falcons

*Falcon's exterior styling is ALOT better than commodores (Unlike most people I love the AU Styling, VERY modern, commo looks old)

*Falcon Looks bigger (Much Bigger) INside, than commodore.

When I Drove the Commo the same route I usually go home, It was smooth sailing the whole way. Not a single squeak, rattle or thunk.

In My AUII I hear rear suspension clunks, rattles, and Road Noise.

(My AUII is 12 months old - 25,000 kms - VT was 18 months old - 45,000 kms)

Anyway, I will stick to my Falcons, I love them more. But sorry to say, I can see WHY the majority of the buying public is going for the commodore.

I know I am a ford fan, but I didn't want to lie and say the ford was better, I am just being Honest!

Even though i'm a Ford fan i used to own a VT Series 1 V6 Interceptor.
I always had a problem with the diff which i changed once under warranty and it was still the same.When it changed gears it was rough as hell.
When i went over bumps the doors rattled which gave me the sh!ts.
If i'm driving for an hour or so i had to put my foot to the floor just to move the bloody thing and in the process drinking more fuel.
I loved the interior and the dash layout in the VT compared to the AU but other than that i prefer a Falcon than a Commodore....... of course. :wink2:

My sister has a VT commode and and after having a Magna that was very reliable I don't think she is overly happy with it. Since buying it about a year ago she has had a broken passenger door handle replaced and only this week the power steering box replaced and also it seems to eat through fanbelts.
I personally don't think these thing should happen on a 3 year old car.

In the latest Wheels mag they compare $40k luxury cars and they mention that they are impressed with the brakes on Fairmont. To quote them "Fairmont's brakes are especially good; among the best here for pedal feel and hard stopping consistency" And their comment on the Berlina's brakes.. "Brakes, however, are only average; the pedal is spongy and effectiveness fades when the heat is on."

Maybe the VT you drove had different brake pads than standard?

Fairmont came 3rd btw, behind the Verada and Liberty....Berlina 5th

The Fairmont probably would have came 1st if not for the live axle and poor resale...

Adam, Yes, as i mentioned, i have heard of lots of quality issues with the VT's. They are a mechanical nighmare.


Martin, I read that artcle. I agree the fairmont is better and should have came 1st!!!

Well maybe the brakes in my AUII are ****ed? The commodores brakes seem to bite quiet well, they stop quickly.

MY Falcon Takes a bit more room to stop, and doesnt stop quite as quick and hard. I get quite a bit of fade in my falcon under heavy corner braking.

Someone took it to Ford Heaven and have'nt seen it since .
I got paid out a few months ago and i'm waiting for the stroker T-Series or the LE Lowndes XR8.
At the moment i'm driving around in my dads WH Statesman until next week which is when i get my EF Fairmont to thrash around.

Does your old mans WH have a 6 or 10 cd stacker ?

If it has a 6 there is a free upgrade to a 10 stacker all you have to do is take it back to the dealer and say the cds are skipping

It has a 10 stacker CD.
It's a 5.7 Litre aswell if you wanted to know.
It goes like a bullet but i suppose it does'nt go like your beast

How did you handle your insurance co? I hope they didnt stuff u around..
