The guy took a sample to an independant laboratory and was declared innocent.

The subsequent police analysis showed teh same.

Smoking marijuana leaves evidence of it in your bloodstream for a few months, thats why these tests are useless.
Theyve proved to inconsistent and inaccurate throughout the world and Australia is the only country to use them. When asked why Police Minister Mick Keelty said "We got Swinbourne University to test it".

OH, thats alright then Mick....

The fact is the police planned to make a media mule of the first person to get caught. They called the media down knowing it would highlight the accused individual BEFORE his was proven guilty.
How would you like being called a druggo across the country and how would your family feel?

IMO he should sue, at least then my heard earned "speeding fine" money would go towards a worthy cause.

But he was a druggo... he even admitted he smoked weed "3 times a year".

A 39yo father with two kids shouldn't be smoking bongs IMHO.

Errrrr wtf Damo, P-Plater limit is zero point nothing.

Young and stupid, living up to your name again I see. Who are you to say what he shouldn't be doing? Depending on who you talk to, smoking and drinking are far worse than the odd bit of pot, so why aren't you ripping on fathers who are puffing away a pack a day or the guys who come home drunk and beat their wife and kids?

It's beside the point anyway, the point is these tests don't work.

Re: Druggo Driving - BUSTED!!

hell yeah psycho! youngandstupid, you'd be surprised how many ppl young and old smoke the odd bit of pot, hell, they even use it in some cases for medicinal purposes for pain releif or something.

id be more incline to be having a go at parents who smoke with kids around as that is doing permanent damage.

when you think about it, and this is coming from a non-pot smoker, why make it illegal for personal use???? afta all its herbal, not like party drugs like ecstasy, speed etc, chills most ppl out than booze (wheras booze which is a legal substance, causes more fights than it should) and its about as harmful as smoking a cigarette.

could go on more but im tired, just woke up and am allergic to typing this early in the morning.

I know I sound harsh on this topic but I have a ZERO tollerance to any illegal drug taking as I have lived with the reality of what it does to the innocent parties who get dragged thru the crap associated with it .......

If you want to use drugs at all, the same as alcohol.... KEEP OFF THE ROADS and out of my way ..........

Re: Druggo Driving - BUSTED!!

Personally, I don't smoke pot. And I don't care if anyone else does *until* they get behind the wheel. That is where the difference lies and where this guy has a right to feel angry of being falsely accused.

The government and police spend every waking second bluffing the public into thinking that speeding, drink driving and drugged driving are killing (seemingly) thousands of people each year. Then after creating this massive scare campaign they falsely accuse an innocent driver of driving drugged and feed him to the press to make an example of him. That stigma of putting other people's lives at risk is what everyone is shaming him for, not the fact he smokes every once in a while.

The police have turned around and said "it was the media not us" which is an absolute cop out. Number 1 they have the ultimate responsibility to keep confidential information away from the media. Number 2, they invited the media to the testing, so how can they be surprised at what happened. Number 3, its them using this obviously crap technology, not the media. I'm all for testing of drugged drivers, but if the technology is going to be falsely accusing innocent drivers and forcing them to wait over a week to have their name cleared then it should be thrown in the bin.

The government is trying desperately to cover its ass over the $1.6 million it wasted on the drug buses. It would not surprise me if it vanished after this fiasco. They should apologise to him for letting this situation get to where it is today and not calming it down straight away. They should apologise for breaking the fundamental rule of policing the law "Innocent until proven guilty", which they clearly failed to adhere to, and they should offer this bloke some form of compensation for the above and the name they have dragged through the mud.

They are only unhappy because it blew up in their face (like everyone knew it would) and they now look like total clods on a WORLD stage. Sucks to be you bracksie.
