ok, my mate is undecided on whether to get a 1990 EA Fairmont Ghia or a 1993 ED GLi.

The EA has a 3.9mpi and the ED has a 4.0.

I was wondering what you guys thought would be the better choice. I told him that the EA was good but he and I heard that EA's can have problems, but the reliabliity of the ED steered him towards it.

But he likes the interior and the electrics of the ghia. And the ED looks pretty plain and cheap.

So what do you guys think?

The EA is $5500 and the ED is $7000 and both are auto.

The ED for sure provided both cars are in similar condition etc.

For trouble free motoring, go the ED damn things are bullet proof(well almost).

EA's are getting very long in the tooth. Make sure all the electric windows work, see if the head has been warped. If the EA has the 3 speed box don't touch it over the ED. Also make sure the climate control works nicely

yeah but the EA looked 100 times better on the inside than the ED. But the ED looked better on the outside.

To be perfectly honest I was a bit dissapointed with the ED, I thought the quality would have been a bit better.

$5500 for an EA Ghia? I wouldnt pay that much unless it was a rare 5 speed and had like 50,000kms on it.

Get your mate to offer the guy $3k-3.5k for the Ghia, and spend the leftover on a manual conversion, cam, exhaust and XR6 diff.

I would go for the ED... it's cheaper to make the inside look decent than the outside.

Also I would spend that much on a EA!!. I got a EA S pack in 1997 and paid $5500 for it.... I think an extra 5 years would bring the price down a bit!!

Yeah thanks guys and gals.

They are both from a dealer in Footscray and both have about 200000 on the clock.

I know 5500 is a fair bit for a EA but it is a late one (1990) and is in very good nick.

As for mods and stuff I dont think he is real keen on it, he likes cars, but he isn't really a car nut like us ;-)

Tell ya something else that is funny, when you know more about the car than the dealer. The ED is an S-pack and he was going on about the usual crap when he said it had the 'special alloys'. They where just 12 slotters and one was a bit rusty!

I mean correct me if im wrong, but I thought 12 slotters where for old cars and taxis and the ED s-pack came with those not so bad 5 spokers?
