Cheers,

Some wreckers use a hotline system (I've seen it in ACT region), and can chase the parts for you.

Easiest way is to post something on here as to what people have seen at their local wreckers.

There was a magazine called "parts locator" that was available in newsagents, it had listings of cars and the wreckers that were dismantling them, i think it is still available

greetings all
Victoria has the "HOTLINE" as well
all you need to do is hope the wrecker calls out on it as sometimes they tell you they did but carnt be bothered helping somebody else move there parts

Re: Easy Way To Track Down Parts From Wreckers?

In WA, most of the wreckers on the hotline are crooks. In fact the best way to find good parts at a reasonable price is to get a copy of the hotline list, then NOT call anybody on it
It's likely to be the same over there; the worst ones put their numbers on it becuase it's easy to find so they get all the gullible/lazy/pressed for time people. Many mechanics will use it because they don't care what the part costs - the customer pays for it, after all!

Your best bet is to ring around till you find a good one, ask your mates/acquaintances. Once you find a good one, stick to him. A wrecker will usually give a regular customer small discounts.

http://www.partslocator.com.au/ <-- can be handy
doesn't have HEAPS of wreckers, but saves a lot of hassle.

You ring them up and ask for a part, they say "we should be getting some parts from that model in soon" Then later that day your car is knocked off :)
