Dont we all hate getting to withing the last 30 sec's of an auction and being Sniped, by a fellow FF member.
Or anyone for that matter.

yes !

i used a snipe to back up my actual bid, and then someone used one on me 1 sec after me and won the item.. i was not happy, stayed up till 5:30am to win it, tho it did save me $120 which i then spent some of it on this

got a realy nice GT Ford racing jacket for $102 was rapt ...for my son..
i think sellers have several names regeristed then the out bid others because the price is not high enough and then its for sale a few days later again...or they bid to pump the price up the price with automatic bidding ..

It sucks if it's something you want but if you bid what you are prepared to pay in the first place and then leave it then it wont matter.

I have sniped a few times (cable is good for it). I generally bid one of 2 ways. I either put in my maximum amount I want to pay with a few hors to go then wait or I dont bid at all, wat for the last 10 seconds and bid my maximum amount. Seems to work most of the time.

With small items like model cars the incidence of sniping seems pretty rife, so you really have to sit there and watch it like a hawk in the final minutes of any auction or you'll lose out to someone else.

Broadband has just made it worse, as you can refresh and transmit so fast that you can lose out with less than 10 seconds to go!

But sniping can be good if you're the seller...

I recently put a set of old 14" alloy wheels and tyres off my last 4 cylinder car on e-bay just so I could get them out of my shed.

Put them up for $150 and they sat there for 5 days without a single bid. 2 days to go they finally jumped up to $250 (and I would have been MORE than happy with this price), then a last minute bidding war buy a couple of guys pushed them out to $401 at end of auction!

Paid for all my 1:43 scale Classic Carlectable models I've been buying lately anyway...

I had a winning bid on an engine for 9 days 23 hours 59 minutes 48 seconds

Yes that's right, I bid on it as soon as it appeared and led the bidding until there was a few seconds left and missed out.

I like to put things that I know will be going for huge amounts in my watch list to see where it all goes.

I did actually bid on something - a mystery auction - with 23 seconds remaining and won at $5 a heap of stickers and a lanyard LOL
