EC Ready To Rule Over Airbag Row
Safety proposals by car makers are expected to be thrown out this week because they don't do enough to protect pedestrians.
The row between manufacturers and consumer groups looks set to rumble on unless the European Commission lays down some rules. "MEPs will surely reject the car makers' voluntary proposal," said Jeanne Breen, executive director
of the European Transport Safety Council. Airbags on bonnets could become standard on new cars if the Commission agrees with MEPs.
