ED hybrid?

Yesterday when I went to buy a new rocker cover gasket we were faced with the daunting task of determining which one we needed My ED XR6 still hsa the old corky on it and it has split so we are going to buy a new one. However we find that there are two gaskets that the ED's used. The earlier one is like mine and is the same as the EB2's, while the later ED's came with an ED-EF hybrid type engine...and this in turn translates into a different rocker cover gasket.
Even though I am not overly bothered by this, except for the fact that the rubber gasket I need is 50% more expensive, I would like to know what other differences there may be between this hybrid engine and the original ED engines. I suppose this is like the EL's where they had the AU hybrid, but I would also like o know how many people know that the engines changed in the same model.

Things that were different from ED to EF (without getting too technical)

kw increase, from 147 to 164 or something like that (Feel free to correct me, i cant be sure on this)

EF went to coils for ignition
EF runs EEC5 engine management
EF runs dual runner intake manifold
EF has different drive belt set up
EF had slighlty different rocker cover

Basically much the same block and head though.....

The ed engine you have is probably one of the last made. Itll have the longer bolts that hold the rocker cover down right? Previous versions have a dome nut. The rubber seal is good and you shouldnt have any leaks with it. Just make sure next time you take the rockercover off, dont pull the seal out as they expand and youll be forever chasing your tail to get it back in.

You'll find that the power increased from 148kW in the ED to 157kW in the EF Assuming of course that we are talking about the non-performance model I6 engine. If you were reffering to the XR6 engine, it is 161kW for the ED and EF is either the same or has 164kW. The 164kW XR engine may have been introduced on the AU XR6 HP though...
