I've a few questions here and there about which wheels to put on my maroon EL 97 Fairmont Ghia. Once decided on the Champayne EL GT replica wheels from SSV, the next choice was tyres.
A new topic was started on which tyre which never ended. I ended getting the Tyre i wanted, the Dunlop 3000 Series tyre, for a bargin as Beaurepairs had a 15% sale on today, so i got the tyre for $195 instead of $225, saving $120 for the set.
The tyres go on this saturday but the story started when the EL GT replica's arrived.
This is probably a good giude for all those who wanted the EL GT replica wheels but went aginst cos of the center cap issue and Between FF and fordmods, there seems to be a few.
DDAY - The arrival
Here is the wheel brand new in the box still. Looks great.
But then the problem, the center caps. The picture on SSV's website shows a champayne cap with Tickford badges. The ones i received, looked terrible.
I then thought, well thats ok, the wheels are a bargin ($1140 deliverrred without tyres) from Sydney, so ill just buyt the proper EL GT Center caps.
Nope. After the friendly local ford spares orderred them for me to get in, i found mentionned on forums that they dont fit. And sure enough they dont.
I then figured I could just get the colour matched to these caps and get some paint made up which is this weekends job but i wanted the small Ford badge there as well. Seems ford dont sell the badge by itself nor does any rarespares or online ford spare parts places. I then looked at the original EL centers and thought hmmmm, i could just stell the logo off them cos i couldnt use the cap anyway. But how to get the sticker out without cutting it with a stanley knife and ruining the sticker.
I thought about it a bit more and wonderred if i could brake the cap in two, hopefully the sticker would just pop off. Here we go.
First, I chopped off the rear plastic clips.
Next, you make a cut down each side close to the sticket so as to make sure where it will bend.
Next, wack back in the vica and bend it out.
And the sticker will pop right out.
Heres what the cap looks like at the end.
Heres the car waiting paitently for the wheels. I also did the whole painting of the Calipers / Hubs.
Well thats it for Part 1, this saturday i will post the colour code for the paint to match once i get back from the paint shop with piccy's to follow.
