Guys,

Does anyone own or know someone who owns an EL XR6? I am thinking of getting one for my next car and want to know peoples opinions of them.

I would like a manual (on gas), but have this image of a very baulky and slow change and feel to it (i wish Ford had a tiptronic auto!)

How do they go in terms of:

fuel consumption (petrol/gas)
insurance costs
handling
problems
acceleration
mods

My other alternative is to buy an VT (preferably VX Commodore S manual) I know, i know, but i am not that brand biased that i would not buy one of the Generals products...........

Your wont have any kind of performance running dual fuel ill tell you that now, youll get smoked by stocker Falcons and Commodores no worries.

Ive only ever driven one Manual Falcon for a considerable length of time and that was an EB GL, never missed or crunched a gear while driving it and I wasnt driving like grandma either

And Ive only ever owned Autos so I doubt that im all that experienced in driving them. (once went from 3rd to 2nd in a Hilux at a very rapid rate of speed :eek::eek: )

All the mags claim that the shift is better in the XRs, plus as its a T5 there are plenty of shifters out there (although they would be designed for LHD vehicles???)

Mate go for straight petrol. Gas isn't worth it in an XR..

I can only speak from my XH ute perspective but it had the same motoer as the EL XR6 and it goes like a dream. The manual box is pretty good and they handle like a chick with roses.. (really well)

I can't recommend them enough to tell you the truth. But make sure you steer clear of gas... :D

Yeah a six pack coupled with a manual trany can be a dark horse in a traffic light brawl, i speak from experience. Don't ever ever ever go for gas, you'll regrete it. Heaps slower even the dedicated gas cars only make 142kw the conversion cars would be less than that . :eek: :eek:

IMO the T50D is very very good, and for teh six cyclinder use it is quite durable heaps better than the auto.

Is gas conversion really worth it now days even tho you get a $500 rebate, with the prices of gas now it doesnt add up to me.
You still use more gas than petrol also..
Another thing you mentioned tiptonic shifting...Chiptorque have bought out a sequential shifter, like a F1 paddle its located on the left of the steering wheel next to the wiper control lever & you control the shifting put tbar in drive push tranny pwr button & away ya go push back for downshift forwards for upshift
