OK for anyone who might be interested there is a ex -police EL XR8 4 sale in Sydney which lis neat and tidy (white of course) . The price is $5900 ! I had to turn around and check that out - i thought they put the wrong sticker on , maybe $15900 ,so pretty cheap - there is a catch of course - the odo reads 397000 kms !! The check abs light stays on - the brakes feel a little gammy and rego's due,otherwise it's all there the windsor stills pulls ok & sounds nice ,you would get for $5500 i reckon -cheap project car /daily driver ??.If anyone's interested let me know

Seems a pretty low price, would be absolutely certain it wasn't a misprint.. I'd also check it out thoroughly top to bottom, you do get what you pay for!

putting a new engine in wont change the fact the car has done nearly 400,000km! As has been pointed out, bringing the engine to a healthy state is easy, but with that many km's the transmission, cooling, diff, interior, paint etc will probably all require attention. Basically the car will be a loose, worn out piece of shit in general, although the price must be considered, and it is damn cheap!
Remember though that these cars are serviced very regularly. I'm sure it would have been thrashed but still, that price is very attractive. I wonder, is it the series 1 or series 2 XR8.
