Thumbs down engine capacity

ok

my xy says on the rego certificate that the engine capacity is 4089.0 now if this was a 351 then shorely it would have said 5.8 or something like that.

so my question is ... is this a 302 or what?

thanks

Re: engine capacity

Sounds like its life started out as a 4.1L.. Does it have six cylinders under the bonnet? Sounds like it may have been a dodgy upgrade..

Re: engine capacity

No, it sounds like your rego lable is wrong if you have a V8. A 302 would be approx 4900cc (302 x 16.39 = 4949cc) . If you work this out 4089 divided by 16.39 = 249.48 which sounds like to me a 6 cylinder 250ci engine.

Re: engine capacity

which in turn means that if your car has a v8 it has never been engineered and passed for rego. Which is a big problem unless you have the original bill of sale for the block.

Also going by your nickname too, i'd immediately presume you were referring to a six :)

Nothing to it mate, just write down the new engine number, take it down to your rego office, give them the new number and tell them you changed the engine. They will give you new rego papers.

Re: engine capacity

don't you need to prove that the new block ain't dodgy? i.e. bill of sale for the engine?

Re: engine capacity

No. As long as the engine doesn't come up as stolen on the registry, then they don't care.

On a similar note, I know someone who had an engine with no numbers on it, so when he was at Regency (SA's Defect station) they gave him a number, and told him to engrave it on the engine somewhere, so he did, somewhere stupid like under the valley cover or something.

Re: engine capacity

guys

in nsw i think its different i was talking to the rta and they said you need to go a registed blueslip workshop and get a notification of engine swap and in order to do that i need a reciept from the seller with the new engine numbers to prove that i bought the car with the engine it has in it. then i gotta go to rta and notify them with the form i got from the mechanics and the reciept.

pain in the neck

thanks
