I know we have played this one to death, but the latest round of press releases raises some questions for me!

If they are right it looks like every engine option in the line up will be serously endoured with power. Of particlur interest is the margin between the six and the bottom rung 8. We look like we are talking somewhere between a 10 and 20 kw between XR6 and XR8. Is that enough of a gap to make the eight a proposition and will we see a return of the Ef XR6 days?

Some, regardless of power difference will always buy an 8, other the 6.

I agree, there should be more of a kw difference between the 2, say 80kws.

Well depends what the base 8 will be, if they stay at 175kw, then a tuned 6 will be more viable. But i'm sure ford will make their hower house the V8 but a hot six will challenge a base 8, but thats it all other range of 8's are ahead.

Good point about owner preferences, and I don't think Ford will turn its back on the 8 for a while yet but been counters aren't normal people.
If the 6 gets to 220kw then the XR8 needs 250 min in my opinion

Well since joining up on Ford Forums it seems to me that having an extra two cylinders is enough for some.

This is a damn hard task working out the proposed lineup I reckon. I think the best way is to work out proposed min/max power for V8 and the same for the 6, then slot the cars in. So lets have a go...

min/max for V8..................220kw-----300+kW (with 1 exception

)

Now V8 models that fit in here would be..

AV XR8..............................240kW
AV LE XR8.........................260kW (FTE)
AV TE/TS/TL......................275kW (FTE)
AV GT...............................310kW (FTE)
Limited AV GTHO..............350kW

(FTE)

Now min/max for 6...........170kW-----220kW (with 1 exception)

AV XR6.............................190kW
AV XR6T............................220kW
AV XR6FteT.......................240kW (FTE)

Well something like that anyway

I must say I like your engine power brief Jem. Did you guys notice that the power levels for this years stroker models and the new motors for the AV weren't that different. Probably a sign that the companies are going to put a self impossed limit on. Both GT models mentioned were at the same power level.
I wouldn't mind if they stopped listing Peak pwer figures and just listed it as "sufficient " like David said in the Tickford article yesterday.

I thought it was a good point raised in the article yesterday. Why would you want to ring the neck out of a motor for peak power if it's to the detriment of the engine? (I mean in factory cars minge..

) I'd be more than happy for the AV to have say 240 from the XR8 and 280 coming from the T's. As long as the performance of the car is better than the equvalent Holden who really gives a rats arse? Perfect situation would be for the XR8 to have 240kw and weigh in at around 1500kg. Not likely to happen, but imagine the times you'd see from it.. yummy..
