RTA Review of fines and demerit points:
Request for Public Opinion.

Okay, Ive been in Queensland for a couple of weeks but I noticed this in the SMH on the way back. I did a quick thread mine here, but I don't think anyone has noticed it yet:

Review of fines and demerit points - closing 5 September 2003
The Roads and Traffic Authority and the Road Safety Taskforce+ plan to review the fine and demerit point levels for traffic infringement notices for traffic and parking offences. The Terms of Reference (TOR) of the review are detailed below. The RTA is seeking written comments from interested persons for consideration in the review. The comments should address the TOR and be addressed to:

Manager,
Licensing Policy & Projects
PO Box K198
Haymarket NSW 1238

The closing date for comments is 5 September 2003.

Terms of Reference
To review the levels and relativities of penalties and demerit points for infringement notices for traffic and parking offences.
To provide comment on possible redundancy of current offences.
To identify areas for inclusion within the demerit points scheme based on road safety concerns.
To provide comment on the double demerit points system and its scope.
To provide general comment on the effectiveness and scope of the demerit point and fine system and the role in changing driver behaviour and improving compliance with the road laws.
+ The Road Safety Taskforce was established in 2001 by the Minister for Roads to make recommendations for improving the effectiveness of road safety interventions and initiatives in reducing the road toll over time. The Road Safety Taskforce comprises members from academia, health, motoring organisations, the community and government.

If anyone has a good idea on what to write in the letter with research facts etc post below for all to see. Hey AP can you give us some pointers?

Yeah, if anyone has some good facts and figures please post below. Chances are they will up the fines and the stakes, unless there is a public backlash.

Re: Every Nsw Driver Read This

Knowing most people (including those on here) all we'll have is whining and moaning AFTER the changes take effect. They're going to be 'too busy' to do something now when they have a chance at being heard.

Guarantee 1: this will end up making things TOUGHER - not easier. Count on the pollies screwing motorsists over even harder.

Can't agree with you more AP, I would have thought this topic would have a better response than this.

Seems that we have a chance for once to say something, even if it might fall on biased deaf ears, yet not many people seem interested in the call to arms.

What can I say I'm in The Alice...and I don't think NSW would take my opinion into account.
Having said that as I've told AP before if I was there I would be with you shoulder to shoulder.
