Okay, Ive been in Queensland for a couple of weeks but I noticed this in the SMH on the way back. I did a quick thread mine here, but I don't think anyone has noticed it yet:
Review of fines and demerit points - closing 5 September 2003
The Roads and Traffic Authority and the Road Safety Taskforce+
plan to review the fine and demerit point levels for traffic infringement notices for traffic and parking offences. The Terms of Reference (TOR) of the review are detailed below.
The RTA is seeking written comments from interested persons for consideration in the review. The comments should address the TOR and be addressed to:

The closing date for comments is 5 September 2003.
Terms of Reference
To review the levels and relativities of penalties and demerit points for infringement notices for traffic and parking offences.
To provide comment on possible redundancy of current offences.
To identify areas for inclusion within the demerit points scheme based on road safety concerns.
To provide comment on the double demerit points system and its scope.
To provide general comment on the effectiveness and scope of the demerit point and fine system and the role in changing driver behaviour and improving compliance with the road laws.
+ The Road Safety Taskforce was established in 2001 by the Minister for Roads to make recommendations for improving the effectiveness of road safety interventions and initiatives in reducing the road toll over time. The Road Safety Taskforce comprises members from academia, health, motoring organisations, the community and government.

If anyone has a good idea on what to write in the letter with research facts etc post below for all to see. Hey AP can you give us some pointers?
