i know quite a few guys live in the blue mountains and out west, and the fires are raging over there right now... also, canberrans... you ok guys?

sydney's kinda scary now - south/south-west is covered in smoke, and the sky's pink!

Tell me about it. I've been out all day and it got worse as the day progressed. I think these fires are closer to Sydney suburbs that the 1994 fires were.

I live in suburbia (near Maroubra) and the smokey haze is giving everything a yellowish tinge. Sort of like looking through yellow cellophane.

Oh, and yes I can smell it here. It's been getting stronger all day. Had a piece of ash fly in through my window earlier.

I hope everyone on here who lives on the outer fringes of Sydney is, and will be, OK. Just saw the news and it ain't pretty...

no ash as far as i know, but you can really smell the smoke! it's getting pretty dark here as well. the smoke has blocked the sun, so only the only blue skies i've got are up north.

and the worst thing is, they are expecting hot and dry conditions to continue... :(

Yeah i'm in the mountains, seems it's ok here though i heard it's pretty bad on teh lower mountains. :-(.

Hope it doesn't turn out to be a big disaster.

there's a lot more smoke here now. at 7 or so i couldn't see parramatta from my driveway, and on a clear day i can see the blue mountains!

I heard the M4 is closed down.

The sun was incredible today, never seen the sun turn blood red like that in the middle of the day.
