I was just wondering whether anyone has had an exchange student stay at your house or whether you've been overseas to be one.
My parents just recently sparked an interest (late last year) and today we have a student from China staying with us. It should be very interesting, and a big change! He seems like a pretty nice kid and has got a few mates over here already who also seem like nice people.
Funny thing is, one of them has a brand new Celica and the other a Supra with the typical "Autobarn" spoiler! And these guys are only 18-20 years old! How the... ? I am going to have to teach them what real cars are made of! LOL!
Cheers.

Previous ride: EBII V8 Manual Ghia spring roll.
Current ride: 1970 ZC 351 Fairlane Custom.. (estimated 350ftlb @ 2000rpm.. max torque 420ftlb at 4500rpm.. with standard exhaust manifold!)
PS: I forgot to mention we had a few exchange students who used to go to my secondary college. One of my best mates was originally an exchange student and is still living in Australia.

I come from overseas, so I know some of those kinda students pretty well.
Here are their usual requirements for their daily drive:
1. Made in Japan or Korea (dunno why)
2. Looks cool (remember, only the "look")
3. Four bangers or less, occasionally 6 bangers, but never 8
4. 2 door is enough, anything more than that is for the old men
5. Spoiler is a must
And therefore the top 10 of their cars are usually:
1. Toyota Celica (really dunno y but I see heaps of them, even one of my roommates is driving one. may be becoz of their "sporty look" and the price)
2. Toyota Corolla / Paseo
3. Honda Civic
4. Mitsubishi Lancer coupe
5. Nissan Pulsar SSS
6. Daewoo Cielo
7. Hyundai Excel (ok, I hate these cars)
8. Mazda 121/323
9. Suzuki Swift
10. Subaru Imprezza
Some richer people may drive a Lexus Soarer / Supra / Skyline / etc, but they're slightly less popular among us. I guess I'm a bit different that I drive a Fairlane instead of any of the above.

docomo, where are you actually from? I think they seem to like newer cars with all the gizmos and latest technology. I don't blame them, but I think I can do without as long as the car has balls! Apparently 'Wei' (pronounced 'Way') has his licence (only 17 y/o) and drives a flaming Lexus back home! Eek Better car than my parents and I! Not fair!!

LMAO! I was really hoping we'd get a little hottie chick. Unfortunately we get a guy :( At least the Mrs is happy and the bathroom won't be taken up!
Still don't know how they can afford a brand new Celica so young :/

I come from Hong Kong, now part of China, though I dun like that fact at all.
I like new tech., gadgets, and all other bells & whistles too, but just don't like the fact that most of those car are for show instead of go. I'm a bit strange that I was fasinated by the E-Series Fairlanes when I first arrived in Oz. That's y I got my current drive.

Easy enough, it's not THEIR money.

docomo, interesting you say that. My good friend (from Korea) loved older Fords and Kingswoods from the first day he got here! Needless to say, he isn't the biggest fan of Jap cars, or as he refers to them, 'Jap-Crap'. He actually owns a XE Fairmont Ghia. It's not in the best nick either.
He's pretty convinced that Holden are better mechanically but loves Ford's design. He is in love with the NF and BA Fairlanes at the moment!!
