Explorer or Tires?

With all this Explorer and Firestone stuff going on these dayz I ask this. Who is really to blame for the situation???????????

I think that the tires are the main problem. BUUUUUUUUUT think Ford is hiding something or just refuses to agree that the Explorer has some series design issues. At this point with ALL the tire recalls now, if I owned a Explorer I would be trading it in. Just not worth the risk!!!

well, i think you're combining two separate issues into one here tim.

on the tire issue: it's becoming more and more obvious that ford knew about the problems with the tread design and the flaws of the wilderness at tire. someone at ford, firestone, or both decided to cover this up. now, it's being brought out and both companies are being made to pay for it.

about the car safety: the explorer itself is not necessarily a dangerous vehicle. i do remember the car being recalled for some safety belt issues a few years ago, but i don't remember hearing anything else recently. i could be wrong.

when they introduced the new explorer, i was a little surprised to find that some of the improvements weren't put into production sooner. the independent rear suspension should have been used 4-5 years ago at the earliest. almost all passenger cars had this, as well as what remains of the station wagons. a wider track will help the vehicle now too. my probe has a wider track compared to my girl's probe (93gt vs 90gl). stock for stock, mine will outhandle hers all day long. i'll bet the same will be said for the new vs old explorer.

all in all, the explorer is not a bad vehicle. i would never buy one for myself, but i have driven a few and i know people who have one. they all love 'em.

Well, I wonder who is lying as well. Maybe Ford, trying to save it's top SUV. Could be Firestone/Bridgestone trying to save it's company. I remember reading an article about the plant in NC that made a shipped defective tires out. I know the Firestone web site lies a little about their tires. I bought a set of SZ50 Firehawks last year. The web site said 300 tread wear. So, like a idiot I belived them. Went to Big 10 and bought a set. A couple of days later I was washing my car, went to clean the tires. Low and behold the tread wear on two of them said 200 the other two had 220 on them. I would have taken them back, but I had already taken a set of Bridgestones back to trade for the Firehawks.:(

Yep, I'm with you on that one. A car, truck, Semi, should all stay up after a blow out. Personally I think most SUVs are unsafe. People drive those things like they're tanks. But a tire just seperating like those have done, thats not normal either. Retreads yeah those do that , but tires with less than 20,000mi doing that, ummmmm. Also Firestone said no other Truck or SUV has done this. A couple of years ago I knew some people who had Rangers. They're factory tires blew out. Guess what they were ? Wiilderness ATXs, when it happens to one person one say's it must have been a bad tire. But when you know 3 others who went through the same thing it makes you wonder. But now they're saying the BF Goodwrenchs are popping, maybe it is design problem. I wish the Truck and SUV people would respond. I like to know if any of them have had tire problems. I also wish they would do a recall on mine, I need a new set.

Well, did anyone hear the news about Firestone tires ? The government report came out a few weeks ago. Saw it on PBS's News hour with Jim Lehrer. The Fed's say Firestone was at fault, the tires were weak around the section where the tread connects to the side wall of the tire. I didn't see it on anyother news station. Guess the war on terrorism gets all the News market's attention now.

G'day fellas. Just wondering isn't it the tyre manufacturer's fault if the tire which THEY Recommended for the car is not up to scratch. I couldn't think of a reason why the car would be at fault or what problem the car would have that would directly affect the reliability of the tyre. Was it that the tyre was not suited for the car or was it that the tyre was bad quality?
