I heard the other day that we can get extended warranty on our cars if they are still low in k's.
Does anyone how much and terms if any .
My xr8 series 2 2000 has only 37k,s and the mechanic at ford said i should get extra warranty .

Interesting. I thought they only applied to runout models.

Sorry I can't help with the details, but to be honest, I had it on my old car and it never got except for one time when the power windows died and yeah, that's about all it covers in the end, biggest rip off on earth. Every other thing listed they will find an excuse to avoid being liable, just like when I had a problem, can't remember the exact problem, but it wasn't covered because a leak somewhere had caused it, so because of the leak, the other part wasn't covered. Go figure!

Edit: To not be seen as bashing Ford, mine was not the actual Ford one, but from the Ford dealer back then. Still, there is always a catch so make sure you read the fine print.

Ford dealers will know about this - but it's a couple of hundred dollars per year.

Extended warranties is another thing to watch out for.

Some arnt worth the paper there written on others are as good as the makers original.

I think Ford do there own extended warranty - if they put there name to it then you know you can count on it over the other jokers on offer...

Yeh, I should have mentioned that. Make sure you go for Ford's extended factory warranty - do NOT get the Harrier warranty. We have an AU1 XR6 VCT with a Harrier warranty and so far the three things that have gone wrong with it were not covered under this warranty - but they were under the factory warranty! (Rusted muffler, stuffed plug leads and leaky boot).

Yes Ford do offer extended warranties - the criteria and cost vary for FPV (FTE) and non FPV/FTE models.

Costs are reasonable and the warranty is a full extension of the standard factory one.

Will look up the info on mine for the qualifying criteria and post it later.

Yes the Ford Extended Warranty only applies to cars still under the factory warranty. But the catch is that this has to be done 3 months before the current warranty expires.

Parents took out extended warranty on their very low kay 1998 EL furura wagon and two months into it had power steering pump replaced and new rear leaf springs fitted, which cost wise would have far outweighed any money they outlayed on the 3 year extended warranty. Another bonus ( i think!) is that should they sell privately, the new owner is safe knowing they have a factory backed car!

Also watch the small print that may have restrictions on who does the servicing,i.e must be dealer serviced ...Maybe not this one you mention but some do..
