does anyone know what program I can download to get rid of this freaking c:/searchpage.html that keeps opening in the browser window everytime I start IE. It hijacks your homepage settings and redirects you to bullsh*t search sites. It's driving me nuts...this is one parasite that seems hard to get rid of. Funny thing was I wasn't even looking up porn and it still appeared (not like last time ). I've tried NoAdware and CWShredder and it's still there.

Noadware is that Lavasofts' Ad-awareV6? If not try Ad-aware or Spybot search and Destroy is another good one

Would it make a difference if you reinstalled IE or used another browser?

Try this.
Go to control panel and then into add/remove programs, you may find a program that should not be there and may look like zzzz or xxxx exe or pop up program etc; Be careful not to remove any important programs.

They usually upload themselves when some sites are visited.

Tell us how you go if this was the case?

No because if he's accidently uploaded another program it may still case him problems. He may need to go to control panel and see if there is any other programs which should not be there, they can reinstall themselves again onto the new broswer or repaired one.

Worth a try if he can't find any unwanted software in the control panel through add/remove programs. Once it's fixed he may need to make his original isp address as default again inside explorer by entering via options? if it's not.

Run Adaware, then SpyBot. I've found that SpyBot finds some stuff that Adaware didn't pick up.

AdAware 6 is pretty damn good, and should solve that problem. You can get it as well as heaps of other stuff free at www.download.com. - lots of useful stuff on there too.

start--->run---> REGEDIT !

look for anything for c:\searchpage blah blah blah and delete the reg key

bam all fixed
