Hey all, it's soon coming time to upgrade the xr6 to something a little more modern. I'm looking toward an el fairmont. But I do like the look of the ghia. So i'm wondering, what were the differences. Off the top of my head I can think of leather, the woodgrains, chrome door handles, maybe the upgraded sound system.....can you guys think of anything else? Plus what do you think would be a good price on my car - full service history and 185,000k on the clock.

Re: Fairmont and Fairmont Ghia - what the difference?
I think if were going to upgrade maybe you should upgrade out of the E-series, as they are all very similar and the EL will really only add a little bit of refinement on top of the ED, and of course if you get the Ghia then a bit of luxury too....but maybe you would be better off with an AU ghia ?
Also I just sold my ED XR6 auto with no extras except cruise control for $7200 up here in Brisbane, had the same Mileage as yours. So I'd say you could get $8000 for yours. But I don't know the going prices down there.
Re: Fairmont and Fairmont Ghia - what the difference?
I like my e-series cars - not a big fan of the AU and not enough dosh to go the BA - so I'd like to go the EL ghia. I've always been a big fan of the ghia with the 16" tickfords, dumped down and the nice exhaust. It's just a matter of convincing myself to stretch the bank account that far.
Personally, I'd be looking around 9-10k for my car. With the sunroof, alarm, sound system and the reasonable k's I don't think it's pushing it (or is it??) I've seen some stock standard xr6s going for 8-9 and I'm hoping that all the extras would push it a little closer to 10.

Re: Fairmont and Fairmont Ghia - what the difference?
well in that case the EL is the best car Ford built before the next model :D
If you can get somebody who wants a car with all the extras you've got then you will probably get a good price, but most people (including myself) can't warrant paying extra for something which I don't really need, so unless i was specifically looking for a car with sunroof, alarm and sound system then I wouldn't pay extra for it.
Re: Fairmont and Fairmont Ghia - what the difference?
Over the fairmont it had
XR motor + ECU(when in power mode)
LSD 3.45:1
Leather trim(seats door trims, wheel, hand break, shifter.
Chrome door handels+handbreak+shifter/surround
Woodgrain interior (on doors and arround shifter)
Nicer rims
Premium sound
XR suspension (i believe)

& suspension that was half-way to XR spec. I think the EL got the LSD too. Barefoot, don't discount the EF/L dash & seat upgrades, they make a lot of difference I think.
Re: Fairmont and Fairmont Ghia - what the difference?
I'm not discounting them at all, I just thought that the AU would be a more suitable upgrade, but there is no point buying something you don't like so the EL is the next best thing.
