Today's Herald Sun reports that in June, Ford's Falcon based performance models outsold their Holden Commodore rivals.
Ford sold 1665 Falcon XR6, XR6T and XR8s vs Holden's 1303 Commodore S, SV8 and SS.
HSV sold 354 cars vs FPV's 113 (which is probably more than T-Series I and II combined...)
Apparently this is the first time this has happened in the 70's? Not much to get excited about then, but it's not a bad result when you consider how dominant the Holden performance cars have been, especially in recent years.
Whether this is just a June anomally or not remains to be seen, as Holden is ramping up production and should have more cars available for sale as the end of the year approaches, though how many extra S, SV8 and SS will be in that extra production is unknown.
No idea of the ute mix though, as these numbers are sedan only.

I think it's a huge result! Considering the problems Ford has had with a performance image over the last decade or so, this speaks volumes for the new "improved" Ford.
Can't say I'm hugely surprised though, everywhere I drive I see BA XR's on the road..... brings a smile to my face every time.
This is great news but where are the weaknesses in the rest of the line up? I would be interested to see how XT, Futura, Fairmont etc are going and why. Brisbane dealers are still selling 2002 plated XTs seven months later - are these unpopular colour/option mixes, demonstrators or just plain unwanted?

Any thoughts/comments?
When I sold cars it was more a case of people ordering and then not being able to afford the finance even after they get approved and losing the deposit, but you never ended up with whole yards full of them, just half a dozen or so if that but once they're ordered and built the dealer has to take them even if the client pulls out!
Could be too many non standard options making it pricier than standard etc...or the dealer over ordered on stock which can happen! Go in and ask, a disgruntled rep could give a straight answer on the bothersome hard to 'move' vehicles.
That type of new car is always difficult to get rid of.
Of the 1303 Commodores, I'd be willing to bet that 1200 where in Hothouse Green - the bastards are everywhere. I guess it's a bit like Blueprint in the Falcon - way overdone....
Good news for ford. The Holden rep they interviwed seemed to be on the defensive to Ford being in front, and also when asked if the CV8-R is coming out to relieve falling sales of the Monaro.
If only Ford could make another 100 or so cars a day more, the number would be even higher!
