From my earlier post about getting 'ministerial approval' for a new AV at the end of the year (http://discussions.fordforums.com/sh...threadid=15505). As i would be looking at the XR6 a fact occured to me today would it be a good idea to get the curent AU3 Xr8 220kw as a runout, they will obviosuly be keen to move them as they have been superseded!?!?!..whats everyones opinion?...

Guess it all depends on what you want. The AV will no doubt be one hell of a car. But getting the current AU3 will no doubt save $$$ and i guess argueably the most sorted EA169 (AU onwards) base chassis out.

As well as that, the AUIII will have the last running of the winsdor 5.0 engine so that could be another good point on a nostalgic aspect.

To be honest, I'm thinking runout 220 XR8, T3 TE or (funds allowing) Barra XR8. The way things are going, I can see runout 220 winning..

yeah the 'runout AU2' specials coming at the end of the year certainly gets me a thinking. Though AV will be nice!!..time will tell i guess, I remember they had XR8 runout earlier this yearwith '01 compliance plates for $39,990. Not bad buying...

yup for those willing to be content on having a current model ford it isnt such a bad idea to save most likely a fair wad of cash towards the release of the new falcon. That is, if they are prepared to forfeit some AV power!

Yeh, IMO runnout model is the go. Barra is new and untested and while it is reported to be a great car from those in the know we all know that Series I of any model car is going to be a bit dodgy. AV will be more pricey (with more features though) than current AUIII but when it is released Ford will be super keen to shift exisiting AUs at reduced prices.

I agree 100%, but I think I might be looking at any run out deals on T3. That would be my suggestion. I base it on the suggestions that barra performance models might go above Xr series 3 range but struggle to get to T3 perfomance. This excludes T4!

Just remember - if AV is as good/popular as many here hope it will, it will murder the used value of anything prior to it. Look what VT did to pre VT model prices ...
