I just thought this was interesting.
I am a member on fast fours for help with my mini, and ive realised that whenever someone bags a ford and says holdens are better they get the absolute crap abused through them. Its quite amusing really that the majority of the 4 cylinder turbo crowd would prefer a ford over a holden. It just took me by surprise.
i think it has a lot to do with the fact that ford has a lot of credibility with building fast 4 cylinder cars. gt cortinas, lotus cortinas, twin cam escorts, mk2 rs2000's, tx3 turbos...and those were just the cars available here. sierra cosworths, escort cosworths, xr and rs series escorts and fiestas in the uk....
and holden have given us the Zzz gemini....

U R absolutely right rsgerry. Ford have produced some wicked four cylinder performance cars and they continue to do so with the likes of the Ford Focus RS....
Having owned 2 fast Escorts before (1 of which was an injected Turbo Mk2 RS2000), I know how good it is 2 drive one of these little beasts. Even with the old leaf spring suspension on the rear, u can get these things 2 handle like the best of 'em! and the motors? Sweeeet.
Long live Ford Fours!!

The old Escort can be a great old car. I had a Mk II Escort Ghia with a 2 Litre 4 speed. Great old car, and they even had Leaf Springs!!

Too true on the Fast Four Fords. Owned a collection.
Big fan of my old MkII Escort that died due to rust in the tranny tunnel/heater bulge (who never saw that coming?!). Overbored 2 Litre, Cam, Extractors. Nothing too special, but lotsa fun.
Once had a bunch of mates in the Escy who dared me to get it sideways. Being rather young and stupid, I did. They were okay until I started Scandinavian flicking it. That scared 'em. Turn right to go around a left hander. Went through a brand new set of rear tyres that arvo. For a four cylinder it had the nicest exhaust note. And the sound of Darth Vader when running on the primary......
The Morrie is faster through the corners, but for some reason you cant hang the arse of a Mini-esque car out like an EsCortina. Wonder why that is? Lol Its also much more fun shutting down V8 Commodores through the twisty bits. Straight line its quicker to walk, but once she reaches cruising speed, theres very few corners where brakes are required .... Great fun after you hose a V8 Commy, wait at the next set of lights. They pull up. They ask "Whats in that?"
You reply - "Standard 1 litre....."
