Being an IT student myself, it would seem logical that I could fix the problem I am having, myself. Okay, so I can't! I'm asking here in hope that someone can help me.
Whenever I install new programs (VB.net Studio to FTP clients) now, they just don't install. They begin, but just stop and don't finish. I have enough space, al beit, small (4.5gb :s6:), enough memory etc. I've never had this problem before...
Any clues? I don't want to resort to reinstalling Windows and formatting etc until I have tried everything.
Stupid computers.
Cheers.

yeah, most likely a virus if its started all of a sudden. If all virus scanner bring up nothing, might me worth having a look at the RAM, cause one of my banks died and had the same effect
Hmm what's this RPC thing? And how can I make sure the Windows Installer Service isn't disabled? Come to think of it... It happened around the time I tried setting up the IIS - it just froze half way through :/

What OS are you using? Win2000? XP? 98? There may be a policy set (either local or domain) that is stopping you installing software if you are on a network especially at work or uni or similar.
just check the services, from the administrator tools, usually accesed via control panel, you will have windows installer there should be started, and RPC services as well should be started, check those.
