I rememba reading how the designers involved in various electric car concepts said they would use speakers to simulate engine sound and exhaust since it aids the driver in judgement. Sounds a bit wanky to me, pushing a switch to change from "camry" sound mode into "F1 V10" sound mode.
Dont be fooled by how weak "electric cars" sound like. An electric powered car has the potential for much higher power than a traditional internal combustion engine. Dont forget that they are what powered the human race through the 20th Century, all cars will one day be powered by electric cells, its just a matter of minimizing their size.

a BMW X5 hybrid with a 3L diesel/electric smokes all 4 wheels!
An electric motor has a lot more torque than the same kw petrol, and has 100% torque right through its massive rev range.... and it's sooooo efficient.... whats not to like?
I hope the next GTHO is a V8 Hybrid electric with over 1000Nm
Incidentally the Toyota Prius puts out over 450Nm...gee that's more than an XR6 Turbo.... are you sure you dont want electric motors?
wow, looks hot, goes well, and runs on like half the fuel, made of carbon fibre but costs lots of $$, and won't have the sweet exhaust note, but in a car like that who cares

Wouldn't be suprised if it has a fiarly decent exhaust note, if it is a sports car and you want decent power you would probably want a fairly well tuned engine, that still has the ability to produce decent power. If they tune it so the engine can scream like say a NSX, I would say it sounds quite good.

That the interesting thing, the engines dont make sound!!! I mentioned earlier how theyre planning to use speakers to simulate engine sound since electric motors dont produce any significant sound. Ill always keep a gas guzzling, noise polluting, oil-burner for my jollies. 1000kW in a "traditional" car would be far more interesting than in an electric car i would think.
